Since the launch of its Full Life campaign, Deliveroo has been actively supporting underprivileged communities around the globe. Celebrating the second anniversary of its partnership with local NGO Feeding Hong Kong, Deliveroo is pleased to announce today that over HK$2.2 million has been raised by Deliveroo and its customers through the delivery app's donation feature. The Deliveroo in-app donation and tipping feature were the first of their kind in Hong Kong, allowing consumers to round up their totals or make an additional donation. The funds raised have resulted in over 440,000 meals being distributed to Hong Kongers facing food insecurity since the campaign began in June 2020.
Deliveroo's Full Life campaign is a global initiative aimed at harnessing Deliveroo's unique network of customers, restaurants, grocers, and riders to make a difference by providing millions of meals to those in need. As part of this campaign, Deliveroo has extended its partnership with Feeding Hong Kong to continue with its ongoing efforts to reach low-income-families that have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, via the organisation's network of over 160 frontline charities across Hong Kong.
Along with the in-app contributions, Deliveroo has pledged to volunteer for 100 hours this year, with Deliveroo staff visiting the Feeding Hong Kong warehouse to assist in the packaging of donated food. In May, Deliveroo helped pack 600 meals for beneficiaries before the Dragon Boat Festival. Many Deliveroo employees took advantage of the company's one-day volunteer leave programme to give back to the community and demonstrate their charitable values, as Deliveroo has strived to integrate "giving back" as a core value into its company culture.
Furthermore, thanks to Deliveroo's food drives on Hong Kong Island being met with great success last year, the company has expanded its food drives to four additional Editions sites. People who live and work nearby in Tuen Mun, Kwai Tsing, Cheung Sha Wan and Tseung Kwan O are all able to donate food to people in need across the city with convenience and ease.
Andrew Hui, General Manager of Deliveroo Hong Kong, said, "It's really wonderful to see how successful our partnership with Feeding Hong Kong has been. It's a cause close to our heart, as Deliveroo is all about delivering great food, not just to customers but to those who are in need in the community we serve. In just two years, we've been able to help countless people within our community, and we're both humbled and honoured by the achievements of the programme. I'd like to sincerely thank the Hong Kong public for their donations, as none of this could have been made possible without their generosity."
Gabrielle Kirstein, Founder of Feeding Hong Kong, said, "We're grateful for Deliveroo's assistance over the past two years, as it has resulted in over 440,000 meals being delivered to individuals in Hong Kong who were facing hunger. Because of the help and kindness from Deliveroo and its customers, there are thousands of vulnerable people who will be provided with quality food. Campaigns and efforts like these are all the more crucial as the city continues to endure high unemployment rates, and rising food prices as a result of the epidemic."
The partnership with Feeding Hong Kong was an outcome of Deliveroo pledging in 2020 to make imperative sustainable development goals, following the United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda's goal of 'Zero Hunger.' The CSR effort is among one of the many unique initiatives created by Deliveroo to support the community, including delivering antiviral care packages to the elderly and low-income families with FOOD-CO and The Jade Club, creating compostable, eco-friendly food wrap packing for World Food Day with Cali-Mex, and offering collection sites for Hong Kongers to drop off their mooncake boxes to be recycled – which saw over 500kg+ of packaging collected.
