This traditional Japanese dish has found a new fan base here in Hong Kong, as more and more people are adding these simple skewers to their takeaway orders. If you love Japanese cooking and you're in the mood to try something different, here are a few places that whip up some of the best yakitori in town…
1. 8 Izakaya Yakitori
If you're looking for yakitori in all its original glory, you'll find it at Izakaya. Their punchy Karubi Beef Skewers are one of the most popular dishes on the menu, but we love the succulent Japanese Chicken version with a golden crispy coating the most.

2. Takagi Yakitori
With all that's on offer at Takagi, it's difficult to pick just one favourite. Their beef packed versions have to be up there with the best of them though – just take a look at the Beef Tongue With Sea Salt. The delicate seasoned crunch on the outside brings the meat to the next flavour level, and we love it. Their seafood options are also a solid choice, where you'll find everything from giant prawns, scallops and even oysters given the yakitori treatment.

3. Aji Yakitori
Over at Aji Yakitori, it's a different kind of seafood that awaits you. Their eel yakitori has gone down a storm, and it's easy to see why. It goes from the market straight to you, so you know it's super fresh and super delicious. If that's not your thing, there's other goodies like puffer fish, salmon fin, razor clams and Japanese mackerel to choose from here.

4. Three Monkeys
Three Monkeys is ideal for those wanting an awesome, healthy lunch. The cooking process behind the yakitori magic removes a lot of the oils and fats, making it a much more virtuous option. They have two different yakitori lunch sets on offer here, each packing in all of our favourite things like pork, beef, chicken and seafood.
Where: Three Monkeys, Hollywood Road
5. COEDO Taproom
If you like choices, COEDO Taproom is the place for you. And they serve their yakitori in handy boxes, making it the perfect office lunch or picnic snack. Wherever you decide to tuck in, you won't be disappointed by the flavour medleys on offer – our favourites include the melt-in-the-mouth Pork Short Rib With Mango Salsa, and the Beef Tongue with a spicy chimichurri sauce.
Where: COEDO Taproom, Causeway Bay
