All the Easter chocolate eggs I've been seeing everywhere recently have been making me crave eggs for almost every meal of the day. So instead of risking an overdose, I'm injecting all my egg-loving energy into writing this post to share with you my favourite egg dishes. Whether you like eggs for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and whether you like your eggs runny, steamed or scrambled, I'm sure you'll find something to your liking in this roundup!
Man Sing Restaurant 民聲冰室
Dish Name: Steamed Egg with Mud Crab (HK$98)
Why we love it: This one is an absolute all time favourite of mine and is the dish I order every time without fail when I visit Man Sing. Famous for their home-style cooking, the restaurant offers no-frill dishes using the best and freshest ingredients that remind every Hong Konger of their mum's cooking. This melt-in-your-mouth steamed egg is infused with the rich umami flavours of the mud crab and topped with freshly chopped spring onions. Eat this with a steamy bowl of white rice and I guarantee it will brighten up the gloomiest of days.
Luen Fat Restaurant 聯發茶餐廳
Dish Name: Egg Sandwich (HK$20)
Why we love it: This sandwich is the definition of "less is more". The thick-cut white bread is fluffy and spongey, creating the perfect base for the rich, creamy scrambled eggs to rest on. The restaurant follows an old secret recipe to a T to make sure every serving of scrambled eggs is velvety and bursting with flavours. This sandwich is a best seller at the Kowloon City neighbourhood hotspot and is a popular choice for a quick breakfast or a light snack in the afternoon!
(Location: Kowloon City)
Dish Name: Sweet Potato Noodles with Sautéed Shiitake Mushrooms and Onsen egg (Can be ordered as part of the HK$68 set)
Why we love it: At Kasa, you will always find healthy eating with a side of uncompromised deliciousness. The sweet potato noodle has a bite to it that creates an interesting texture while the shiitake mushroom adds a deep earthy umami flavour that matches the rich savouriness of a meat-based broth. Mix in the gooey onsen egg and this vegetarian dish will be a delight for even the most die-hard carnivore.
Meen & Rice 粥粉麵飯
Dish Name: Sliced Beef & Raw Egg (HK$60)
Why we love it: Inspired by the classic Cantonese dish Sliced Beef & Raw Egg Rice, this congee is essentially a bowl of liquid velvet thanks to the raw egg that adds an extra thickness to the congee base. Topped with gently cooked beef slices, this congee is the food equivalent of a warm embrace. Perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the congee is also a delicious remedy when you're feeling under the weather.
(Location: Repulse Bay)
Dish Name: Avocado and Egg (HK$78)
Why we love it: Avocado on toast has been all the hype in recent years and it doesn't look like this trend is dying off anytime soon. Fast Gourmet takes this dish to new heights by topping their perfectly seasoned smashed avocado with a Sous Vide 62° farm egg and mixing crushed pistachio into the avocado for a rich nutty taste. Needless to say, when you break the runny yolk over the green bed of avocado mix, the result is both visually orgasmic and incredibly, incredibly tasty.
